Dwell on What Redeems

by J. Randal Matheny

“If it bleeds, it leads,” the journalist wrote,
Man loves his death and gore;
To the good should not the saints devote
Their efforts all the more?

Leave off the worldly, base appeal
To dark and brutal themes;
Encourage what will save and heal,
And dwell on what redeems.

New births in Christ, the spreading Word,
All gifts and glories divine—
By such let spiritual hearts be stirred,
In these let Christians shine.
