When least expected, God surprises,
When human hopes are low;
His help arrives in a thousand guises,
But the eye of faith will know.
We wait for great, impressive moments,
To see the Savior’s reign;
Or else we watch for heavenly omens,
An unmistakeable sign.
In truth, he comes oft with the morning,
A ray of early sun,
Or in the rain, now soft, now pouring,
In the web the spider spun.
In lowered voices, in countless ways,
In a look, a word, a touch,
And yes, in trials, in pain, in delays —
Through these the Lord does much.
